Would you see black and blue?

The Salvation Army has used the recent viral internet debate as to whether a dress was white and gold or black and blue in a powerful domestic abuse awareness campaign in South Africa.

The dress, which you can read about by searching #dressgate on Twitter, set the internet alight recently.  Was it black and blue or white and gold?  Now the Salvation Army is using a photograph of a young woman, covered in cuts and bruises, wearing ‘the dress’, albeit a specially made white and gold version.  The photo is accompanied by the caption “Why is it so hard to see black and blue?” and “The only illusion is if you think it was her choice.”

Nicola_Holland_webGraysons’ family solicitor, Nicola Holland says “I think it’s really astute of the Salvation Army to jump on this particular bandwagon.  Yes the debate was a bit of fun on the internet, but it really got people in quite a flap.  Let’s hope the Sally Army’s far more serious question stirs things up just as much and helps people to be more aware of, and more willing to help, people who are suffering from domestic violence.”
