The House of Commons has published a new document discussing cohabitation and how the law relates to it.

Common law marriage myth

Many cohabiting couples mistakenly believe that they are protected by law in the same way as a married couple or a couple in a civil partnership.  This simply isn’t true, and without a cohabitation agreement, couples can find that they are not entitled to anything upon separation or death.
