Cape must pay – Graysons lends its support for £10m payback

Graysons is putting its weight behind a campaign to demand £ 10 million from a Rotherham company for hiding the devastating effects of asbestos.

Belinda Lancaster and Jon West, both partners at Graysons, joined a recent protest against Cape after the Asbestos Victims Support Groups’ Forum UK uncovered papers that alleged the firm covered up the dangers of asbestos in its products in the 1960s and 1970s.

They joined the recent protest outside the Cape offices in Rotherham.

Belinda said:

“Countless lives were lost because the firm hid the effects of asbestos products and Cape shouldn’t be allowed to get away with this. We are demanding they donate at least £10m to mesothelioma research, to put right some of the wrong they have done.”

Graysons has spent years campaigning for more to be done around the dangers of asbestos exposure and it works alongside Derbyshire Asbestos Support Group (DAST) to support families and individuals.

Belinda has pursued scores of successful compensation claims and raised funds for the DAST charity which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.

DAST, with support from Graysons, regularly recovers over £10m a year in benefits and compensation for victims of exposure and their families.

The UK has the world’s highest rates of mesothelioma – the cancer caused by asbestos exposure – with around 2,700 people each year being diagnosed, often decades after first coming into contact with asbestos.
