Laura Cowan

Laura is Graysons’ Head of Private Client.  She joined Graysons in August 2019.  Laura is a chartered legal executive, being a fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives (FILEX) and a trust and estates practitioner with full membership of STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners).  She is also a full member of Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE).

Laura obtained a BA (Hons) in history at the University of Hull before obtaining her legal qualifications with Ilex in 2008.  She has worked in the field of probate for 19 years, during which time she has handled some complex cases, including:

  • Dealing with an estate valued at £6 million (gross).
  • Presenting applications to court to vary the statutory trusts for minors.
  • Assisting in defending a successful inheritance tax tribunal against HMRC.
  • Court of Protection work.
  • Deputyship work.

Typically, around 90% of Laura’s time is spent carrying out probate work.

Out of work, Laura is involved in the local community and is the chair of Sheffield SANDS, a stillbirth and neonatal death charity: a post she has held for three years.  She is also a governor at Stocksbridge Junior School.
