Complaints of slips and trips on ice and snow are amongst the most frequent received by our personal injury specialists.
One such client slipped on snow in December when he got out of his car in the car park of the call centre he worked for in Rotherham. There had been a heavy covering of snow and the company had attempted to plough through it, pushing it into piles along the car park. As a result, the remaining snow had compacted and a brief thaw had caused it to melt, followed by a freeze that turned the water to ice. Arriving at work one morning, our client parked his car, got out and, after walking only 20 to 30 metres, slipped on black ice. In immediate pain and unable to move his leg, colleagues arrived to help him and took him to hospital.
X-rays showed that his knee was not broken, but after several months of pain, poor mobility, pain killers and physiotherapy, he was told that he had osteoarthritis in both knees and that it had very likely been set off by the accident.
Our personal injury specialists contacted the man’s employers, who initially disputed liability and so court proceedings were issued. The business, which is ultimately responsible for the health and safety of its employees, contacted the buildings management company with which it had a contract to clear the snow and ice. This company stepped in and agreed to settle our client’s claim, paying him £4,000 in compensation.
Our experience and expertise in these sorts of claims means that we are able to seek the best possible results for our clients, so if you slip or trip on ice, snow or other dangerous conditions, and it was not your fault, contact us now so that we can pursue your claim immediately.
