Graysons has bid a fond farewell to its longest serving member of staff, Lorraine Johnston, who has retired after 50 years as a cashier with the firm.

Lorraine started working at Graysons in 1968 and has made several moves with the firm; from Mazda Buildings to North Church Street to Paradise Square to its current home at Courtwood House on Silver Street Head – all in Sheffield.  She has worked with the founder of the firm, Robert Graysons, and his two sons, Derek and Gordon during her time at Graysons.

Lorraine has seen many changes during her 5 decades as a cashier, moving from manual and mechanical to computerised accounting, and taking in Britain’s change from pounds, shillings and pence, to decimal currency.  She says:

“When I started working at Graysons in 1968 – when it was called Robert B Grayson and Sons – I never dreamed that I would still be here in 2019!  I have really enjoyed my time with the firm, and have made some fantastic friends here.  Whilst on the one hand I am sad to be leaving Graysons and my colleagues, I am definitely looking forward to retirement and am sure I have plenty to keep me busy!”

Graysons staff, past and present, joined together last night at Couch on Campo Lane to help Lorraine celebrate her retirement.

Very best wishes to Lorraine from all at Graysons.  Thank you for all your hard work during your 50 years with us – now enjoy your retirement!
