Solicitor, Rachel Read-Hill joined other solicitors, barristers and legal academics as a judge in the competition, whilst paralegal, Megan Wroe, acted as one of the clients being interviewed.

Sheffield Hallam’s competition tested the interviewing skills of law students from 15 universities in the north of England, all looking for a place in the national final on 10th March.  Other regional finals took part in universities in the south west and south east of England.

The north’s top four teams were:

  • University of Birmingham
  • Keele University
  • University of Derby
  • Manchester Metropolitan University

The winners of the national final will represent England and Wales in international competition that takes place in the Netherlands in April 2018.

Rachel and Megan thoroughly enjoyed the day, saying “It was great to see the competitors using skills they had learned in their law courses at university.  They were all extremely competent, which made finding the winners a tough job!”

A senior lecturer in law at Sheffield Hallam University, Gillain Pastuch, said the university was:

“delighted to host this prestigious event and provide our law students, and students across the north, with the opportunity to develop client care skills that are crucial to any lawyer’ and “thank you all very much for your time and expertise.  I know that all of the competing students are very grateful for the thorough and helpful feedback that you provided to them.”
