Who is at risk?

The children at risk were treated at Brierley Medical Centre with vaccinations that had been stored at the wrong temperature in a faulty fridge for 5 years. NHS England says that 515 children have been treated with the vaccines that, whilst not harmful, may not be fully effective.

When did this happen?

Staff at Brierley surgery believe that the vaccines were given between January 2009 and June 2014, although they cannot be completely certain. The surgery, previously run by Dr Magdi Selim and partners, has now been taken over by Sheffield Health & Social Care NHS Foundation Trust.

Parents, some of whom are having to ensure that their children receive repeat vaccinations, are naturally concerned about the mistake and the effects it will have on their children.

What can those affected do?

Graysons’ medical negligence team says “This is of course extremely distressing for the children and their parents. We are already receiving enquiries from those affected and are advising them on their ability to make a medical negligence claim against the practice. We are all entitled to receive the best care possible from health care professionals, and where this does not happen, we may certainly be entitled to receive compensation.”
