Compensation won in two months for slip on water

Graysons personal injury specialist, Tracey Dickinson, has won £1,500 – in just two months - for a woman who slipped on water.

slip on waterMs H lives in a block of flats in Rotherham where the communal areas were being cleaned.  On 4th April 2017 the cleaner had mopped outside Ms H’s own flat but hadn’t put a wet floor sign on display as she only had two and had displayed one at the top of the stairs and one at the bottom.  Ms H lives in the middle!

Ms H came out of her door to collect her shopping delivery and slipped, falling to the ground.  She suffered bruising to her lower back and lower back pain, which lasted about eight weeks.  The cleaner took photos of the area and reported the accident to the landlord.

Ms H contacted Graysons to see if she could claim compensation and Tracey took up her case.  She contacted South Yorkshire Housing Association Ltd. (SYHA), the landlords, claiming that, amongst other things, it had:

  • failed in its duty to maintain the property in a safe and habitable condition
  • failed in its duty to carry out maintenance and repairs to keep the property in a safe condition
  • failed to ensure that Ms H was kept reasonably safe from personal injury and exposed her to a foreseeable risk of injury or harm
  • failed to warn about the presence of the danger by fencing, marking or otherwise the hazard

Liability admitted and compensation won in two months

Two months later, SYHA admitted liability, without any medical evidence having to be obtained, and offered a settlement of £1,500, which Ms H was happy to accept as she had made a good recovery in eight weeks.
