Compensation for woman who sustained cut to thumb in Costa

Partner and personal injury expert, Jonathan West, has won £1,500 for a woman who sustained an injury in Costa.

The woman was visiting Costa, White Rose Way, Doncaster.  She had ordered coffee and a croissant.  The croissant came with a glass jar of honey.  When she tried to remove the lid from the honey, the glass broke and she sustained a cut to her thumb.

The cut was significant and required attendance at Doncaster hospital where she received one main stitch and five butterfly stitches in the thumb. Her thumb and wrist were bandaged by hospital staff.  The cut took four weeks to heal and the woman will be left with a 2cm scar.

The woman decided that she would contact Graysons to see if she could claim compensation for the injury, and Jonathan took up her case.  He contacted Costa, saying that his client had been injured due to Costa’s negligence as it had not taken reasonable care to protect its customers from such accidents.  Costa denied liability for the accident, saying that the manufacturer/supplier of the jar of honey, Wilkin & Sons Limited, was responsible, so Jonathan contacted the company.  It too denied liability for the accident, so Jonathan issued court proceedings against both Costa and Wilkin & Sons.  Costa then decided to settle the case and Jonathan was able to negotiate a settlement of £1,500 for the woman.

We are working safely, from home, and can discuss your case by telephone, video call or email.  Once we have assessed your case, and if we are able to take it on, we will offer you a no win, no fee agreement, subject to a success fee (this is in accordance with legislation and is the most common way of financing personal injury claims). We will tell you at the outset of your case what the maximum percentage to be deducted from your compensation will be. This will be to cover our success fee and payments such as your insurance premium, if applicable.
