Graysons urges motorists to take care in storms

The Met Office is warning that stormy weather is likely to continue throughout winter in the UK.  After the devastation caused by Storms Éowyn and Herminia recently,  and following its personal injury team’s success in claiming compensation of over £400,000 for a client who suffered a road traffic accident in windy conditions, Graysons is urging motorists to take extra care.

take-care-in-stormsThe client was driving an HGV tipper truck on an exposed road in Derbyshire during high winds, when a high-sided vehicle (Iveco 7.5 tonne) tipped over and collided with him, crushing his cab.

The client suffered a significant head injury, lacerations to his neck chest and arms, a fractured collarbone and a dislocated shoulder.  He spent eight days in hospital and was in acute pain for many weeks.  His lifting capabilities were severely reduced and he also suffered post concessional syndrome, double vision, poor short-term memory and cognitive function.  Some of the discomfort will last for years and since the accident, the client’s brain trauma has led to headaches, dizziness, depression, anxiety and other psychological issues.

Jane Cooper, partner and head of Graysons’ personal injury team says:

“High winds can be very dangerous for everyone, especially motorists. People really need to take extra care, but if the worst happens and someone is injured in these storms through no fault of their own, they should take legal advice as soon as possible, as they may be able to claim compensation. Our client in this case is probably lucky to be alive, suffering serious consequences from an accident that resulted from the wind. Hopefully, the six-figure compensation will go some way to helping him get back on with his life.”
