Whiplash Injury Compensation Claims

What is Whiplash?

Whiplash can cause injury to neck muscles, ligaments and jointsWhiplash is one of the most common injuries suffered as a result of road accidents. It arises when the head suffers a sudden and unexpected jolt due to an impact with another vehicle.

The most common example of a whiplash injury is when a car is hit from behind by another vehicle. The head is thrown backwards and the body goes forwards at the same time, this is often then followed by the head suddenly being thrown forward as the brakes are applied or due to another impact with a vehicle in front. This whiplash motion happens within a very short space of time.

The whiplash motion commonly causes injury to neck muscles, ligaments and joints. Soft tissue damage may also be sustained in other areas of the body.

A variety of symptoms may be suffered as a result of sustaining a whiplash injury. These often include things such as neck and shoulder pain, dizziness, headaches and tinnitus (ringing in the ears). Associated pain such as numbness or pins and needles can also be experienced in the arms.

What can I claim?

You may be able to claim General Damages which cover the physical pain and suffering encountered as a result of your accident. General Damages can also be paid to cover things such as emotional pain and depression which are suffered as a direct result of the injury.

Special Damages may also be payable to cover things such as loss of earnings while you recover from the injury as well as out of pocket expenses such as medical costs or car hire expenses.
