L-R Megan Wroe, Bradie Pell, Rachel Reed-Hill

The lecture, which was based on life in legal practice, was given by head of Graysons’ family department Bradie Pell, family solicitor Rachel Read Hill, and family law paralegal Megan Wroe.  Each shared their thoughts on why they decided to pursue a career in family law, the career paths they have taken and every day issues in family legal practice, such as dealing with clients, courts and advocacy.

On this occasion, Megan found herself on the opposite side of the podium at SHU, as she graduated from there in 2016 with a first-class degree in law, having won the Graysons’ Family Law Award in the same year.

The students really liked the presentation, saying it:

  • gave an extremely good insight into what it is like to be a family lawyer
  • was well-structured and engaging
  • shared excellent experiences
  • was reassuring to see that Megan sees Bradie as a mentor, as having someone supporting you at the beginning of your career is very helpful
  • was nice to see a former SHU student had been able to progress her legal career at Graysons
  • was helpful to hear how each presenter got into their family law careers and how they deal with their individual roles
  • was beneficial to hear the presenters give valuable answers to questions
  • made sense of things the students had learned in lectures, giving them a practical perspective
  • made students feel that the hard work, dedication and perseverance will bring rewards when they get to where they want to be

Organiser, Dan Fauset, thanked Graysons’ team, saying he found the lecture interesting and insightful and the speakers engaging.
